This postgraduate program is aimed at students who have completed their higher education in music and are looking for a exhaustive preparation to pass orchestra auditions from all over the world, as well as training in orchestral practice and its peculiarities.
The program is recommended for higher graduates with a high level of instrumental solvency who wish to direct their career towards orchestral performance, which is one of the most desired and, at the same time, most demanding work goals. In addition to continuing with a individualized instrumental training of the highest quality,, the students of this program will acquire transcendent abilities when it comes to dealing with the multiple realities of the orchestral profession, such as the exchange of musical ideas in groups of players, the techniques of orchestral interpretation, or the social relationship between the members of a group, as well as between them and the director.
If, in addition to preparing for success in orchestral practice, you want to cover all fronts for your professional future, at Musical Arts Madrid you have the option of combining this postgraduate degree with the official Master's degree in Musical Research of the VIU (Valencia International University), recognized throughout the country, with which you will discover the best existing musical research techniques and you will be able to access and score in competitions at conservatories all over Spain, carrying out all theoretical classes and research workshops completely online.
As a postgraduate student in Orchestral Studies, you can benefit from up to 50% of the master's enrollment!
To be admitted to this program, you must be in possession of a undergraduate - major in music diploma or be able to obtain it before the start of the initial academic year.
Each applicant must upload their biography in PDF and a total of no less than 20' of video material with at least three pieces of different styles. These could be individual movements of a longer piece (e.g., the first movement of a sonata). You can do this in a single clip with all the pieces or in several separate video clips.
This postgraduate program lasts one academic year, from October to May, inclusive, and can be extended to a second year, if the student so wishes and the teaching team so advises.
The official VIU master's degree can be completed from September to May (first semester), or from March to October (second semester). Both titles are compatible in the schedule and schedule of their activities.
Postgraduate students will receive individual classes with their instrument specialists, also participating in workshops and group classes in the rest of the specialties:
INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENT CLASSES
Each student will receive 15 individual classes lasting one hour distributed throughout the course, in which you will receive advanced instrumental training by postgraduate teachers.
Collective classes
Each student will participate in 16 group classes of 3 hours of duration, taught by the teachers of the program, at the rate of 4 classes per teacher*.
The program is designed so that all students can receive advice from the entire faculty, even if they are from instrumental specialties other than their own, with the intention of multiplying the wealth of the input received. In addition to the exhaustive work on orchestral techniques and solo preparation for tests, these sessions will include talks on mental preparation for auditions, mindfulness and stage fright.
*This ratio may vary depending on teachers' schedules
Chamber music
Students will be part of chamber groups and will receive a minimum of 10 classes distributed throughout the course. They will be able to form a group with other colleagues in the program, as well as with other colleagues in the master's degree and higher education.
Orchestra/large groups
All postgraduate students will participate in orchestral projects divided into three meetings during the academic year, with dates announced well in advance. These meetings will carry out activities intensively over several days, just as the preparation of concerts is carried out in most professional orchestras.
Partial and sectional tests
As part of the training in orchestral practice, and in addition to collective classes, partial and sectional rehearsal sessions will be held aimed at Preparation for orchestra auditions. These will be led indistinctly by the main teaching staff or by the directors invited to the meetings.
