Great performances of more than 50 concerts support Nikolai Demidenko specifically playing Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Medtner and Tchaikovsky. And thanks to this, he has earned worldwide recognition for his virtuosity, passion and musicality.

Nikolai has worked with prominent directors such as Sir Roger Norrington, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Charles Dutoit, Gianandrea Noseda, Sir Andrew Davis, Giancarlo Guerrero, Dima Slobodeniouk and Pablo González. He collaborated with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Philharmonia Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Helsinki Philharmonic, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Xi'an Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. In Spain, he has worked, among others, with the Barcelona and National Orchestra of Catalonia, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Navarra Symphony, the Galician Symphony, the RTVE Orchestra and Choir, the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir.

Among the frequent recitals he gave in London, his participation in the Great Performers Series at the Barbican, in the International Piano Series at the Southbank Centre, and in the London Pianoforte Series at the Wigmore Hall stand out.

His extensive discography consists of nearly 40 recordings. For Hyperion Records he has recorded more than 20 CDs, including Piano Concertos No. 2 and No.3 by Prokofiev with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, reissued in March 2015, Medtner's award-winning Gramophone Editor's Choice album, Music for Two Pianos, together with Dmitri Alexeev, his CD by Rachmaninov, awarded the BBC Music Magazine Best of The Year and the Diapason D'Or and the Piano Concertos by Tchaikovsky and Scriabin, which won the BBC Music magazine Best of The Year and Best Concert Recording by Classics CD. Nikolai Demidenko's Chopin album released in 2008 for ONYX Classics won the 2010 Chopin MIDEM Special Prize.

Nikolai Demidenko graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with pianist and pedagogue Dmitri Bashkirov and later became his assistant teacher for 5 years. Awarded at the Montreal International Competition and the Tchaikovsky International Competition. In 2014 he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Surrey in recognition of his contribution to the field of music.

In parallel with his career as a pianist, Nikolai Demidenko develops his pedagogical activity giving masterclasses and consulting to young performers around the world organized by promoters from Australia, Germany, Russia, China, Greece, South Korea, UK (Menuhin School where he taught piano from 1990 to 1997) and the University of Surrey.

Since 2016, he has been systematically collaborating with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute to give masterclasses to young pianists during the “Chopin and his Europe” Festival, as well as with the International Pianos Series in collaboration with the Haute École de Músique at the Fribourg Conservatory in Switzerland.

He has been invited to be part of the jury for the piano competitions:

Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht (2011, 2014), Leeds Piano Competition (2015), Sydney Piano Competition (2016), Moscow Competition “Nutcracker” (2017), 1st Edition of the Fryderyk Chopin International Competition on historic pianos (2018).

In 2022 he will participate in the jury of the ARD Music Competition in Munich and in 2023 he will once again be a member of the Jury for the 2nd Edition of the Fryderyk Chopin International Competition for historic pianos in Warsaw.

He changed his place of residence from the United Kingdom 14 years ago and currently lives in Madrid, Spain.
