He was born in Torrent (Valencia), where he began his first musical studies at the age of 8. He entered the Conservatory of Music of Valencia to begin studying the trumpet and, later, he moved to Madrid to pursue higher studies, at the Royal Conservatory of Music, with an exceptional career and the highest grades, crowned by opposition with the Extraordinary End of Career Honor Award. At the same time he taught with Vicente Lillo, who always had a special interest in his preparation.

He then traveled to Paris to expand his studies, performing as a soloist in the Organ Hall of the National Conservatory of Music, with Maurice André and Pierre Thibaud professors at this center. Since then he has attended numerous international trumpet courses.

He began his professional career in the Castellón Municipal Band. At the age of 18, he belonged to the Municipal Band of Madrid and later, he won the position of petty officer in the Music Band of the Head of State, (now the King's Band).

As a soloist, he is invited by many orchestras around the world, touring Europe, America, Japan, etc. He regularly collaborates with the group “The Moscow Virtuosi”. At the same time he performs organ recitals, with the most prestigious national and foreign organists.

His concerns for today's music lead him to be a founding and solo member of “Gerhard Project”, an ensemble specialized in contemporary music. The composer Claudio Prieto has dedicated his “Mediterranean Concert” (concert for trumpet and orchestra) to him, which he premiered with the Spanish National Orchestra at the Alicante International Festival and then at the Teatro Real in Madrid, achieving great public and critical success.

He is a founding professor of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and a member of the National Metal Ensemble.

José Ortí combines this intense concert activity with teaching, a field in which he is often requested to teach courses in the teaching of the trumpet.

He is in possession of the “Gold Medal for Fine Arts” and the “Knight's Cross of the Order of Civil Merit” awarded by His Excellency King Juan Carlos.

He is a solo trumpet of the Spanish National Orchestra and professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and later at the Conservatory of Music “Joaquín Rodrigo” in Valencia.

He is the favorite son of the city of Torrent, and he was also awarded the “Gold Medal”. Commissioned by Exc. City Hall composes the Anthem of Torrent.

He is the artistic director of the Spanish trumpet firm Stomvi, under whose direction he built the instrument in E Major, which premiered it with the Spanish National Orchestra in the interpretation of J. N. Hummel's concert in this same key.

He has held the position of Head of the Department of Wind Metal, Percussion and Jazz at the Conservatory of Music “Joaquín Rodrigo” in Valencia, and the position of Deputy Director of the same center.

He is a member of the M. I. Academia de la Música Valenciana, and was named “Distinguished Musician” by the Academy of Valencian Music in 2012.

He is a regular guest teacher of the JORVAL (Youth Orchestra of the Valencian Community), as well as most of the Spanish Youth Orchestras. It offers regular classes to students in the European Youth Orchestras and the Gustav Mahler Orchestra.

As a result of his long career as a solo artist and teacher, he has countless professional students who currently occupy most of the jobs in the best orchestras, bands, chamber groups, soloists, institutes and conservatories in Spain and in Europe.

In the field of conducting, regardless of the corresponding studies, he has to his credit the fact that for more than 40 years as a soloist of the National Orchestra of Spain he has been conducted by the best conductors in the world with the experience and knowledge that this entails, having taken courses with several of them, based on the Spanish members of the O.N.E. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Jesús López Cobos and who has set standards in the world of orchestra conducting such as Sergio Chelividaque.

He has been a trainer conducting the Symphonic Bands, Unión Musical de Liria, Santa Cecilia de Cullera, C.I.M. la Harmonica de Buñol, Ateneo Musical Schola Cantorum de la Vall d'Uixó, is the godfather and honorary director of the Santa María Magdalena de Novelda Band, and, in recent years, he has held the position of Artistic Director and Head of the Torrent Musical Union.
