Jorge Monte de Fez

Born in Oviedo in 1986, Jorge Monte de Fez is the Solo Horn of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra in Milan and the Philharmonic Orchestra della Scala. In addition, he was a member, from 2010 to 2016, of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a project founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said. Since 2019 he has been professor of horn at the “Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana” in Lugano, Switzerland.

Despite his youth, he has been invited as solo horn by the most important European orchestras: Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Münchner Philharmoniker, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin; in Spain, he has played with the Galician Symphony Orchestra, the Valencian Community Orchestra or the Granada Orchestra. He has worked under the baton of important teachers, such as Daniel Barenboim, Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, Herbert Blomstedt, Daniel Harding, Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, Daniele Gatti, Kirill Petrenko and Ricardo Chailly, to name a few.

Thus, Jorge Monte de Fez has played on the most outstanding stages in the world:
Philharmonie, Waldbühne and Konzerthaus Berlin, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Festspielhaus Salzburg, Royal Albert Hall of
London, Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Arts Center in Seoul, etc. In Spain, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Teatro de la
Maestranza in Seville, Auditorio de Tenerife, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo or the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, among others.

As a chamber musician, he has shared the stage with musicians such as Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim, Klauss Thunemann and Radovan Vlatkovic, among others. In addition, he is part of the wind quintet I solisti della Scala, performing a wide variety of repertoire with concerts all over Europe.

As a concert artist, he has performed with various groups, such as the Philharmonic Orchestra della Scala, the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias, the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, the virtuosi della Scala, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra and the Barcelona Municipal Band, addressing the most representative repertoire of his instrument, such as Concerto No. 4 by W. A. Mozart or Concerto No. 1 by R. Strauss, and also with his group “i solisti della Scala” the concert symphony by W. A. Mozart.

Trained in Oviedo and San Sebastián, where he obtained Honorary Enrollment in the final exam, he completed his academic training at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, where he was named “Most Outstanding Student of the Horn Chair”. Soon after, he joined the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. In 2011 and 2012, he was part of the Staatskapelle Academy in Berlin, under the direction of Daniel Barenboim.
