Giuseppe Devastato

Giuseppe Devastato, born in Naples, is a pianist and composer recognized by international critics as one of the most interesting pianists of his generation.

Giuseppe Devastato has worked in the most important theaters in Europe, America and Asia, such as the Manoel Theater (Malta), Villanueva Auditorium (Mexico), Leon Auditorium (Spain), Parco della Musica Auditorium, Scarlatti Hall, Ravello Festival (Italy), Carnegie Hall in New York (USA), Ateneu de Bucharest, Auditorium of the Banatul Philharmonic in Timisoara (Romania), National Auditorium in Kiev (Ukraine), Auditorium in Tarnow, Krakow, Szczecin and Bydgostin Zczy (Poland), Wuxi Grand Theater, Beijing Performing Art Center, Shanghai Symphony Hall (China), Tokyo National Auditorium.

He has performed at the Ravello International Festival, where he performed the complete Sonatas and Variations for piano and cello by Beethoven and Brahms in duet with Silvano Maria Fusco, and has worked with orchestras such as the IASI Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, Kiev Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Chamber Orchestra, Accademia dell'Arco de Polonia and Saratoga Youth Spring Orchestra of New York.

He was awarded the position of Artistic Advisor to the Neapolitan Music Society of New York in the presence of the governor of New York, Mario Cuomo and Mrs. Matilda Cuomo, for his artistic merits in revaluing the Neapolitan repertoire of the 18th century.

He has been invited to represent Italy abroad giving concerts for embassies and cultural institutes in Romania, Bosnia, Poland, the United States, Japan and Lithuania. On June 9, 2011, he was selected by the Italian Ministry of Culture to represent Italy to play a concert organized by the Institute of Italian Culture for the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy at the Polish Auditorium in Olkutz, which was recently inaugurated on the occasion.

He was awarded the “International Cartago Award 2011” for human merit and professional achievements in the “MUSIC” section, for the dissemination of music in general — and Italian music, in particular — around the world, by virtue of the merits acquired as a pianist and composer, with the intention of spreading the world of classical music: “His actions demonstrate a high sensitivity and a deep love for life. His pianism is intended to imitate the human voice and is inspired by the art of Bel Canto of the Neapolitan School”.

His debut at Carnegie Hall in New York as a pianist and composer, on May 30, 2014, was greeted with a standing ovation. On this occasion, the “Sembazuru Fantasy” was presented, for Violin, Piano and Orchestra (dedicated to the victims of the tsunami). On December 15, 2015, he won two international awards at Global Music Awards in Los Angeles - United States, the Gold Medal for the composition “Toccata”, and the Gold Medal for “The Pianist Composer”.

Their albums are published by Warner Chappel Music, CAM, Da Vinci Classics where they have received awards and reviews in the most important music magazines.

He is currently still invited to give master classes in Europe, America and Asia, presenting his new book “The Science of Piano Technique” based on the technical-musical criteria of the Neapolitan School of S. Thalberg.

His students have won many international awards, members of Alink-Argerich, such as S.Thalberg, Cesar Franck, Composers of Spain, Maria Herrero, Riga International Piano Competition, Warsaw International Piano Competition, Newcastle YPN, F. Liszt Weimar, WPTA Finland International Competition, etc.

Author of music for piano, chamber and symphony, his compositions are regularly performed in Europe, America and Asia, performed by great performers and published by Da Vinci Edition.

He is the Artistic Director of the International Piano Competition “The Napolitan Masters” in Naples (Italy) and “Mimas Music Festival” in Procida Island (Italy). Professor of Piano and Chamber at the Academia Music Arts Madrid in Madrid and at the Accademia Musicale Europea in Naples in Italy.
