David Fons

Viola

One of the most notable violists of his generation, recognized nationally and internationally as the winner of first national and international viola awards, David Fons studied with Vicente Ortiz, Luis Roig, Luis Llacer, Jesse Levine and Wilfied Strehle. He is a professor at the José Iturbi Conservatory in Valencia and Musical Arts Madrid. In orchestras such as OSN, OCV or Collegium Instrumentale he has been able to work with teachers such as F. Ayo, N. Chumachenco, Y. Menuhin, V. Ashkenazy, Z. Mehta and F Roth, among others.

He has participated in countless of the most outstanding chamber music festivals in our country, France and Italy as a member of the Rebec Trio, Palomares-Fons duo, Naght Trio, Viola Sings Duo and as a collaborator of the Beethoven Klavier Quartett, Ensemble de Cadaqués and V430.

As a solo artist, he has performed in the auditoriums of Zaragoza, Vigo, Valencia and others, together with directors and soloists such as Cristobal Soler, Vicent Alberola, Jesse Levine, Vasko Vassilev and Franco Petrachi.

In January 2019, he presented his first album “Viola Oppression” containing the sonatas of R. Clarke and D. Shostakovich, for viola and piano with pianist Kei Hikichi, for the label Orphues Classical.

David uses a Giacommo and Leandro Bisiach viola from 1954 for his performances.
