A passion for chamber music and an enthusiastic involvement in teaching are the pillars of his career. An important discography testifies to his activity.
He has recently published in Columna Música the recording of the complete Bach Suites for solo cello. Of this interpretation, critics have pointed out: “clairvoyance and refined technique always at the service of musicality,... elegant in diction,... overflowing in rhythm, delightfully traced and carefully explained” (Lluís Trullén, Revista Musical Catalana), “interpreted without more transcendentalism than the musical, in direct communion with divinity. Personal versions, neither romantic, nor grandiloquent, nor historicist, seeking and achieving the beauty and fluidity of the discourse, without being subject to a single thought, to a previous script” (Última Hora, Balearic Islands). “Clear lines, inciting rhythms,... melodies linked to lyricism,... the sound of his cello is very, very exciting... The technical and sound quality leave no room for doubt... Amparo Lacruz endorses that Bachian garment like no one else...” (Allessandro Pierozzi, Melómano). “In the version that Amparo Lacruz offers us of this admirable corpus, there is a love and respect for music that reveals an absolute maturity, rare in a performer of her youth... not only does she offer us a magnificent (and unexpected) seminal Opus performance of her instrument, but also a subjugating poetic interpretation of it” (José Luis Téllez, Scherzo).
His CDs “Winter in Flames” (Chopin and Bridge Sonatas) and “Brahms & Röntgen”, in a duo with pianist Andreu Riera, have also been acclaimed by the press: “Intensity, brilliance, exquisite tuning and delicate romantic expression” (Jorge de Persia, La Vanguardia). “Virtuosity and perfect balance at the service of sincere expressiveness and inner lyricism, which masterfully recreates sound beauty” (Javier Pérez Senz, El País). The CD “Guinjoan in Memoriam” includes his interpretations of Diptic and Puzzle.
Amparo Lacruz has performed at the Granada International Music and Dance Festival, Cuenca Religious Music Festival, Alicante Contemporary Music Festival, Torroella de Montgrí International Festival, Porta Ferrada Festival, Pau Casals de El Vendrell Festival, Santander International Festival, Beaux Arts Brussels (Belgium),
Amsterdam Cello Biënnale, Peter de Grote Festival in Groningen and Emmy Verhey Festival in Zaltbommel (Netherlands), Ravello Festival (Italy), Crussell Music Festival in Uusikaupunki (Finland), the Pau Casals Festival in San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Vivacelli Festival in Seoul (South Korea), as well as in the concert seasons of the Juan March Foundation, the Auditorium 400 of the Reina Sofía Museum and the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Palau de la Música Catalana and L'Auditori in Barcelona, and the of the Music of Valencia. His concerts have been broadcast on RNE, Catalunya Música, Radio France, RAI, Südwestrundfunk, Finnish National Radio, Radio 4 of the Netherlands, Euroradio, TV3 and Canal Mezzo.
His versatility and the search for new paths have led him to explore connections with the performing arts, dance and jazz. Examples of this concern are the production of music and dance “Bach x 2” —for Caixaforum and the Bachamplona Festival—, the show “Suite de l'aigua” with solo and electronic cello music by Carlota Baldrís and scenography by Joan Font (Comediants), premiered at L'Auditori de Barcelona, and his performances in Germany, Italy and Spain with jazz pianist Uri Caine in the project “Wagner and Venice”.
As a member of the Kandinsky Trio, he toured extensively in Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, Japan, China, Egypt, Lebanon,
Jordan, Syria, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. His monographic work on Guinjoan's work was awarded, in 2009, with the CD COMPACT Magazine Award for the best chamber music album of the year. The CDs “Schoenberg and Barcelona” and “Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms” (Columna Musica) have received excellent reviews. Also noteworthy is his recording of R. Gerhard's Sonata, together with pianist Emili Brugalla, for the Stradivarius record label.
After years of training in Spain, England and the United States and Austria, in 1989, he created the Manon Group, a group that had an international presence for ten years, and of which unique recordings remain, some of them of reference, such as his version, celebrated by critics and the public, of the Quartet for the End of the Times of Messiaen.
To concert life, we must add Amparo Lacruz's interest in teaching. She is currently a cello and chamber music teacher at the Conservatorio Superior del Liceo de Barcelona. He has taught master classes in Japan (Kunitachi College in Tokyo and Aichi University of the Arts in Nagoya), United States (Oberlin College, Boston University, California State University and West Chester University), China (Shanghai Conservatory), South Korea (Vivacelli Festival), Latin America (Conservatory of Las Rosas in Mexico, Conservatory of Lima and Agustín León Ara Course in Costa Rica), the Netherlands (Peter de Grote Festival and Amsterdam Cello Biënnalle), at the ForumMusikae in Madrid and at the meetings of the Valencia Youth Orchestra, the Young National Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC) and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE).
The students enrolled in the program will participate in three individual classes of 45 minutes together with the professor who is the teacher of the program.
Students will actively participate in concerts throughout the duration of the Musical Arts Summer Program, performing in them the works worked with their teachers.
The master classes will be held in the classrooms of the Escuela Superior Musical Arts, which has fully equipped facilities for their development, so that course participants will be able to make use of these classrooms for individual practice.
All the activities of this program will take place between the stipulated dates (see info for each program). In them, individual classes and student concerts will take place, distributed within the indicated date range, so that students can organize their study time and prepare for their meetings with the teachers.
